1. First things first, lay out your stepping stones in a cool path. Each stone has its very own letter of the alphabet on it. How awesome is that? It’s like walking on letters!
2. Now, here comes the fun part! As you hop from one stone to the next, your mission is to think of a word that starts with the letter on the stone you’re standing on. Can you do it? Of course, you can! Let your imagination soar!

Objective: The objective of the game is to match each US state with its corresponding capital city while hopping across stepping stones.

Materials Needed:

1. 50 cards with US states printed on them. Download our pre-designed cards!
2. 50 cards with corresponding state capitals printed on them. Included in our download!
3. Bean & Ollie Stepping stones

Setup:

1. Lay out the stepping stones in a straight line or in a grid formation, with enough space between each one for a player to stand. If you have 2 teams create 2 lines of 5 stepping stones (different heights) and place the XL stepping stone at the far end (the winner’s stone)
2. Shuffle the deck of state cards and place them face down in a stack.
3. Spread the deck of capital cards on a table face up.
4. Designate a starting point and a finishing point along the stepping stone path.

Gameplay:

1. The players stand at the starting point.
2. The first player draws a state card from the deck and reads it aloud.
3. The player then has to select the correct capital card from the table. If they are correct, they move to the first stone. Each team takes a turn.
4. The players must correctly match the state card with its corresponding capital.
5. If the player matches the state with the correct capital, they can advance to the next stepping stone. If incorrect, they stay in their place.
6. The next player then takes their turn, drawing a state card and a capital card, and attempting to match them correctly.
7. Play continues in this manner until all players have had a turn.
8. Players who make a correct match move forward, while those who don’t stay in their current position and hold up the rest of the team.
9. The first full team to reach the finishing point wins the game.

Variations:

1. Time Challenge: Set a timer and see how quickly the players can hop across the stepping stones while correctly matching states with capitals.
2. Memory Game: Lay out the state cards and capital cards face down on the stepping stones. Players must flip over cards to find matching state-capital pairs while moving across the stones.
3. Team Play: Divide the players into teams and have them work together to match states with capitals as they navigate the stepping stones.

This game not only helps children learn about US states and their capitals but also encourages physical activity and coordination.
